358°, 2023 Massanella 1365m (Batch #7)

21.28

This wine is named after the mountain of Puig de Massanella that is part of the Sierra de Tramontana range. At 1,365 metres it’s the second tallest mountain on the island and lies just in front of the winery right next to Puig Major, the king of all mountains of Mallorca.

Puig Massanella is a highly praised sister and it doesn’t lie in the shadow of her taller brother, just like our rosé wine based on Grenache. Our Grenache vineyards are facing this mountain at the angle of 358° from the winery.

Description

Our most refined Massanella to date… and yes, we truly mean it!

There are several reasons for this. Of course, the aromas and flavors are top-notch (obviously!), but beyond that, we managed to blend Grenache with a significant portion of Pinot Noir this year. It’s also exciting because this is the first year we crafted two rosé wines: the Massanella and the Art Wine #2, both excellent with their own distinct styles and personalities. Perhaps 2023 is our “millésime en rose?”

This year, we took a unique approach by fermenting part of the Grenache (from an early harvest) with natural yeast, while another portion was fermented with cultured yeast. The results were remarkably different, and this played a key role in the exceptional quality of this year’s Massanella. After a series of fun and creative blending sessions, we settled on a harmonious blend of 64% Grenache and a generous 36% Pinot Noir!

How to best enjoy 2023 Massanella

Tasting note by Marie

This wine has an incredibly uplifting aroma! Expect charming, vibrant notes of crushed strawberries, red apple, apple blossom, and nectarine, which open up to hints of orange blossom and blood orange. The palate echoes the same fruity and floral profile, bursting with juicy strawberry, ripe orange, and clementine.

Be warned—this wine is impossible not to love and equally impossible to resist!

What pairs well with Massanella

While this rosé is perfect for enjoying with sunshine, smiles, and friends, food isn’t essential. However, if you reach for that second or third bottle after a little dancing, pair it with toasted salty almonds, a mild umami-rich cheese like Havgus or Comté, and perhaps some delicious hummus.

When, where, and with whom

To repeat what’s been said: sunshine, smiles, friends, and happy music! This wine is all about celebrating life in the best way possible.
